Diabetes Camps
Diabetes camps are a great vacation destination for a kid with diabetes. In addition to the socializing benefits (i.e. meeting with other kids with diabetes), diabetes camps are great because they teach the kid vital things about managing his or her diabetes, such as nutrition, how to measure blood sugar level, how to give themselves insulin injections, how to avoid complications, etc. Many doctors recommend diabetes camps as one of the best ways to manage juvenile diabetes.

Check your Glucose Meter
There is no doubt that a damaged glucose meter is useless. What is more, if its indications are wrong, this glucose meter could be very dangerous for you. Glucose meters come with bottles of glucose solution, which is used to test the glucose meter. Generally the test is very simple – place a drop of glucose on the strip and see what the glucose meter says. Then check if its indications are in range with the composition of the glucose bottle. If they are – the glucose meter is OK; if they are not – consult the glucose meter vendor.

Diabetes and Mouth Care
Mouth care is essential for everybody's health but if you are a diabetic and have ill-fitting dentures or bridges, beware of sores. Also, get a mild toothbrush because if you get a hard one and you scratch your gums by accident, this could mean trouble.

The Best Glucose Meter is the Comfortable One
Choosing the best glucose meter can be a challenging task but your primary concern should be that you get a glucose meter that is reliable and comfortable for you. For instance, if your vision is far from perfect, a glucose meter with a small screen is not comfortable at all. Or if you have arthritis or peripheral neuropathy, a glucose meter with small testing strips is also not a solution.

Choosing a Glucose Meter

There are various glucose meters on the market and it can be really tough to choose the best one. One approach is to ask your doctor or fellow diabetics to recommend something. This way your selection will be narrowed and then it will be easier for your to make your choice.

Keep the Inside of Your Shoes Clean
Keeping the inside of your shoes clean is essential for everybody who cares about his or her personal hygiene but for a diabetic this is of vital importance. The inside of your shoes will be cleaner if you change your socks regularly, don't wear the same shoes two days in a row and once in a while exhibit them in the sun to inhibit fungal growth.

Take Your Shoes Off
Even if you have the most comfortable shows in the world, if your feet are inside them all they long, they will not have proper ventilation. Because of this, it is important that you take off your shoes whenever possible. For instance, you can get slippers or sandals and keep them in your locker at the office. When you arrive at the office, change your shoes with the slippers and spend the day in them, rather than in your boots.

Keep Your Glucose Meters Always Around
If you have been diagnosed with diabetes recently, you still might not have the habit of having your glucose meters always with you. What is more, keep them in good shape and in working condition! If you can afford, it is best if you have one spare glucose meter. It could come handy, when the other glucose meter breaks.

Lose Weight
If you are diagnosed with diabetes and you are overweight (as unfortunately most people with Type 2 diabetes are), your most urgent task is to lose weight. By losing weight you still help your body in its fight with diabetes. Diet and exercise are your two allies in your attempts to lose weight.
